People suffering from excessive hair loss keep searching for an ideal hair loss treatment. They are ready to do anything to prevent losing their locks. Fortunately, different hair fall remedies and surgical/non-surgical procedures are available for treating hair loss. Some people can cure their hair loss with a few home remedies, especially if it is in its initial stages. However, in some cases, hair loss is at advanced stages making home remedies useless. A more permanent and long-lasting solution is needed for such people, and that solution is a hair transplant. FUT hair transplant in Dubai is a commonly used technique for hair restoration. Many surgeons and patients prefer it over the more recent one, known as FUE transplant. Although it is a traditional hair transplantation method, it has its pros and cons.
In this article, we have shared the most common advantages and disadvantage of FUT hair transplant. But before that, let’s understand the difference between FUT and FUE hair transplants. Keep reading to find out more!

Difference Between FUT And FUE Hair Transplants
Both FUE and FUT are hair transplant techniques used for hair restoration. While each has its pros and cons, they are both almost equally popular.
In Follicular Unit Transplantation or FUT hair transplant in Dubai, a horizontal skin strip is extracted from the donor area. The skin strip contains hair follicles. These healthy hair follicles are then individually harvested from the strip. Once the harvest is complete, the linear cut is sutured or stapled. After harvesting enough hair follicles or grafts, the surgeon transplants them to the scalp’s recipient areas. The sutured area heals into a long and linear scar with time.
On the other hand, in FUE or Follicular Unit Excision hair transplant technique, each hair follicle is individually extracted. The surgeon uses a punch tool that creates tiny cuts in the donor region and removes a healthy hair follicle. Once enough healthy hair follicles are extracted, he/she will transplant them into the recipient area. This procedure is relatively time-taking and requires a lot of patience and precision. Moreover, the tiny cuts are not sutured, and they turn into tiny dot-like scars with time.
So, we can say that the main difference between both hair transplantation techniques lies in the nature of follicle extraction.
Pros and Cons of FUT Hair Transplant
Since FUT hair transplant in Dubai is a surgical hair loss treatment, it has risks associated with it. However, it doesn’t mean that this technique doesn’t have any advantages.
Below, we have mentioned some pros and cons of FUT hair transplant. Keep reading to learn more!
Pros of FUT Hair Transplant
Some advantages of FUT hair transplant are given below:
Natural-Looking Results
As compared to FUE hair transplant, FUT provides results that look and feel more natural. The natural-looking results’ main reason is that the grafts are extracted from the scalp at once instead of being harvested individually. Due to this, the results follow the natural pattern of hair growth.
Affordable Rate
Among the two popular hair restoration techniques, FUT is the more affordable option. The reason is that it doesn’t require as much precision, time, effort, and care as FUE. So, as hair transplant surgeons can perform it quickly, it costs less.
Quick Procedure
A single session of FUT hair transplant lasts for about 1-2 hours. During one session of FUT transplant, a surgeon can extract an average of 4000 healthy hair grafts. On the other hand, one FUE hair transplant session completes in about 1-4 hours. During one session, a surgeon can only extract 3000 hair grafts. So, at least two sessions are required for removing a sufficient number of grafts. Therefore, if people are given a chance for a shorter treatment, they will take it.
Long-Lasting Results
Although it is not mandatory, patients have reported getting results that lasted longer than FUE hair transplant. As the donor area is limited to a particular part of the scalp in FUT, it makes it easier to extract an entire follicle. More hair follicles get damaged during extraction in FUE, so the results may not last as long as FUT.
Cons of FUT Hair Transplant
Some disadvantages of FUT hair transplant are given below:
Visible Scarring
One of the most significant disadvantages of FUT hair transplant in Dubai is the visible scarring. Since the procedure involves removing a strip from the donor area and suturing it, it leaves a noticeable scar behind. While the scar can be hidden under longer haircuts, it isn’t ideal for shorter haircuts. Therefore, many people avoid this hair loss treatment as they don’t want to have a linear scar on their scalp.
Post-Op Discomfort
Since it is a surgical procedure, post-op discomfort is an expected side-effect. However, the discomfort can last for a long time as the stitches need time to recover. Moreover, the donor area is usually the backside of the scalp, making it even more uncomfortable to lie straight.
Slow Recovery
Another drawback of FUT hair transplant is that the recovery period is relatively extensive. It is mainly because the stitches require time to heal, and a patient cannot fully recover without them healing. So, patients are not allowed to indulge in strenuous physical activities during this period. It is essential for avoiding sutures to open or the scar from widening.
Scalp Stretching
While the scalp stretching risk isn’t common after a single session, it can occur after several sessions. Someone suffering from progressive baldness shouldn’t undergo a FUT hair transplant. If they have another procedure over the years, they will end up stretching the scalp. So, for such cases, an FUE hair transplant must be considered.
